Gerald (Jerry) W. Morescki, a resident of Mesa, Arizona died peacefully Saturday, November 11, 2023 at his home. Graveside services will take place in February of 2024 on February 16, 2024 at 10am at the National Memorial Cemetery of AZ, 2309 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85204.

Jerry was born October 4, 1942 in Springfield, Illinois, son of Frank L. Morescki and Mary Giacommetti Morescki. Jerry Graduated from Feitshans High School, Springfield, Illinois in 1960, enlisted in the Army, and served overseas (Germany) as a Cryptographer. After an honorable discharge from the service, he returned to his home in Springfield, IL, married and moved to Sherman, IL where he and his wife raised their daughter. They later divorced in 1986. Jerry worked in the insurance industry most of his life.

Through mutual friends, Jerry met his partner for life, Freda M. Newberry/Young. They were married May 21, 1988 in Eldridge, Iowa at the home of Freda’s Sister and husband. They celebrated their 35th anniversary this year.

Jerry loved flying, had a pilot’s license, and owned his small aircraft until eye problems prevented him from flying. He then became a model airplane builder and flyer, enjoying the sport at a flying field outside of Springfield, Illinois. Jerry and Freda attended many, many model airplane flying events all over the state and several other states. They both enjoyed vacationing at the beaches in the Gulf Shores, Alabama, Florida and Texas, getting away from the Illinois winters for a time. After retirement, they moved to Mesa, Arizona. He joined a flying club and continued with the club until his death. Aviation and military history was his passion. His knowledge of both was simply amazing!

Jerry and Freda loved dogs and together they shared his Charley, later their adopted greyhounds, Big Guy and Gracie.

Jerry enjoyed his family, his grandchildren, his friends, and flying buddies.

Survivors included his wife, Freda, daughter from his first marriage, Susan (Jim) Mitchell, Minneapolis, Minnesota, stepdaughter Kathleen (Michael) Barnett, stepson Richard (Rowena) Young, St. Louis, MO, stepson Rodney (Kelly) Young, Beardstown, Illinois, his grandsons Steven and Samuel Barnett, Mesa/Gilbert, Arizona; his sister Joann Wise, Springfield, Illinois; and nieces and nephews and their Gracie, a mini poodle.
