Obituary of Jay George Banna

Jay George Banna, 72, passed away on September 17, 2023, joining his parents, George and Margueritte, in their eternal home.

He was born in Ain-Anoub, Lebanon on March 19, 1951 to his parents George and Margueritte Banna.  He proudly grew up in this village with his younger siblings, Salwa and Fadi.  During his time there, he made a huge impact on the community and touched many lives.  Till this day, he is remembered fondly in that village and is considered a Hero to the people and families who knew him.   In his early 20’s he moved to Liberia, Africa along with his parents and siblings.  He lived there for 13 years before making his journey to the United States.  He began this new chapter in San Diego, California before traveling east to Pennsylvania, and finally settling in the Arizona desert.  He was known for his love of travel and adventure.  At a moment's notice, he would be off in his truck exploring a new town, visiting old friends, or helping a family member with a home improvement project.  He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, and he never took “no” for an answer.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Pizzo Banna; children, Cristina Johnson, Jay G. Banna and Ray J. Banna; grandchildren, Juliette Banna and Jamil Banna; siblings, Salwa Mattar and Fadi Banna; nieces and nephew, Tania Salas, Louie Mattar and Stephanie Banna.

He had a heart as big as his personality and larger-than-life presence. He left a lasting impression on the people he met throughout his life.  He cherished God and his family.  He loved big trucks, Cowboys and the Old West.  Cowboy hats, embroidered western-style button down shirts, boots and big belt buckles were a staple in his wardrobe.  He was the original Lebanese Cowboy!  His life adventures and storytelling were captivating, memorable, passionate and full of spirit.  He was caring.  He was generous.   He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Cadence Senior Living, 100 W Queen Creek Rd, Chandler, AZ 85248.
