John M. Landis III (Pops), beloved father, husband, brother, and grandfather, passed away on September 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in Glendale, Arizona. He was 87 years old.
John, known to his family and friends as a man who could light up any room with his humor and friendliness, was a loving father to his children, the late Lucinda (Cindy), April, John, and Maryann. He was also a cherished husband to his wife, Manuela O. Landis. His parents, John M. Landis II and Anna Landis, preceded him in death, but he is survived by his sister, Betty Hair.
Born and raised in Chicago, John embarked on a journey that took him from Illinois to California, Texas, New Mexico and eventually, he settled in Glendale, Arizona, for the remaining 40 years of his life.
John's zest for life was infectious, and he had a passion for sweets, always sharing hearty meals with his loved ones. He was a dedicated sports enthusiast, with an unwavering loyalty to both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears, cheering them on through victories and defeats.
In his professional life, John worked for and retired from Bridgford Foods as a salesperson, where his charismatic personality and strong work ethic made him a respected member of the company.
John was not only a great father but also a proud grandfather to Manny, Alex, Joel, Cristian, Isabella, Sophia, Geoffrey, Nick, Sierra, Terry, and Christine. He adored spending time with his grandchildren, creating treasured memories through swimming, laughter, shared stories, and conversations on history.
One of John's favorite pastimes was playing cards, and he approached every game with a competitive spirit. He loved the thrill of victory but also the camaraderie of good-natured competition, and he will be remembered for his determination, especially when he was determined not to lose.
John M. Landis III leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends, and his playful spirit will continue to bring smiles to their faces.
Rest in peace, John, you will be dearly missed, but your laughter and love will live on in our hearts forever.
