Marjoria (Margie) Irene Scott Obituary

October 27, 1935 – July 22, 2023

Marjoria Irene Scott passed away at her care home with her daughter, Teri, by her side.  She was born in Rockville, Missouri, to her late parents Roy Leonard and Irene Hinshaw.  She was the middle child of three.  Margie graduated from Waukee High School in Des Moines, Iowa, where she played basketball and excelled in home economics class, and was also elected homecoming queen of the graduating class of 1954.  Margie was married to Chuck Scott on August 31, 1956, in Des Moines.  They were married for sixty years until his passing.  Margie, Chuck, and daughter, Teri, moved to Phoenix in 1965 and purchased their first home where they spent many years.  After moving back to Iowa, Chuck took an international assignment in Amsterdam, Netherlands, where they spent two years.  While there, Margie learned to speak, read, and write the Dutch language.  They moved back to Phoenix to retire in 1998.  Margie lived in the Solera Community for twenty years and was an active member of the Desert Mountain Bible Fellowship.

She loved cooking and cleaning house; she even started her own cleaning business in the early seventies and cleaned for the famous Goldwater family.  Margie was proud of her blue ribbon won in 1970 at the Arizona State Fair for her dipped chocolates.  She exercised every day and helped to start the morning exercise class in Solera, “Walk Away the Pounds” which still meets today.  She was a big fan of Elvis Presley and loved his gospel music.  She and Chuck were also the long-time hosts of the Solera Community Bible Study.  Margie was a quiet, gentle soul who loved Pepsi Cola, Good and Plenty candy, and Taco Bell.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; her sister, Wanda; her brother, Roy Leonard, Jr.; and her beloved rescued dog, Ruby.  She is survived by her daughter, Teri; her sisters-in-law, Zella Hinshaw, Judy Scott, and Emily Scott; along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The Celebration of Life for Margie will take place on Sunday, November 12th, at 2pm in the Solera Community Center Ballroom located at 6360 South Mountain Boulevard in Chandler, Arizona, 85249 with a luncheon to follow.  The service will be officiated by Mike Cimino and all are welcome (use gate code 2477).  Her ashes will be spread at the same San Tan Mountain location as her husband’s per her request.

In lieu of flowers, Margie would like you to donate to either the Arizona Humane Society or Desert Mountain Bible Fellowship.
