Obituary of Mary Alice Walek

Mary A. Walek age 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by family on March 27, 2019. She was born December 9, 1944 in Kearney, Nebraska to Eugene and Isabel Madsen of Minden, Nebraska. She attended Minden High School and graduated in 1963. She married her loving husband Merle Walek on October 19, 1963 and moved the Lincoln, NE shortly afterwards. They were happily married for 56 years. After being longtime residents of Lincoln, Merle and Mary moved to Mesa, AZ to enjoy retirement. Mary knew no strangers, and welcomed everyone into her life and home. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend. She was truly loved by many and the stories of how she has touched countless lives with her kindness and compassion are endless. Her pride and joy were her family including daughters Kristi Reins (Scott) and Andee Walek and grandchildren Randa and Danica Meierhenry. She was always their biggest fan and rarely if ever missed an event they participated in. Mary was heavily involved in youth sports as a coach and mentor. She was extremely creative and participated in rug hooking, painting, needlepoint, antiquing and was sought out as a china restoration specialist. She will be greatly missed by her family and all that have had an interaction with her. She is survived by her husband Merle, daughters Kristi Reins (Scott) and Andee Walek, granddaughters Randa and Danica Meierhenry, twin brother Tom Madsen, sister Carol Valen and countless nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family. The family is planning a Celebration of Life ceremony in Lincoln, NE in the coming months. Notification will be made via Facebook and Lincoln Journal Star.
