Obituary of Namagundalu Venkoba Rao Shamasundar

N.V. Shamasundar, fondly known as Shyam or Shama, aged 76, passed away on Thursday April 4, 2019 in Gilbert Arizona. Shyam was born in Bangalore India; youngest child to N. S. Venkoba Rao and Sathyabhamma Devi. He completed his Electrical Engineering degree from Gulbarga University before moving to London for work. After 3 years in London, Shyam moved back to India where he was married to Uma in 1971. The same year Shyam and Uma moved to The United States. They spent three years in New York, three years in California and finally made their forever home in Arizona. Shyam earned his Masters in International Management degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management in 1984 and served the City of Phoenix as an Electrical Engineer for 25 years before retiring in 2009. Shyam was the co-founder of the Kannada Sangha of Arizona, serving as the first and tenth president of the association. He also served as president of the India Association of Arizona for two years. Shyam took pride in being the Hindu representative with the Arizona Interfaith Movement for many years and loved teaching about our Hindu faith. Shyam is survived by wife of 48 years, Uma, daughter Thulasi, son-in-law, Sunil, Sister, Lakshmi Bhakta, Brother Sripada Rao along with many other relatives. Shyam will be missed dearly for his gentle nature and kind demeanor. Mostly he will be missed for his passion for life. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Indo-American Reception Hall on Friday April 12, 2019 between 5pm-9pm.
