Obituary of John Robert Corey Sr

John Robert Corey Sr., 70, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 5, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona.

John Robert was born on August 9, 1952, to John I. Corey and Betty J. Corey at Camp Cooke, CA. After graduating from Lemoore High School in 1970, he briefly attended West Hills College in Coalinga, CA.

At the age 21, John enlisted in the United States Navy. After joining as a Store Keeper, he found his real passion was working as a Boatswain's Mate Third Class where he eventually got promoted to Petty Officer Third Class and was honored with the position as Coxswain.

On October 1977, John Robert began a 37 year career at PG&E where he obtained the position of Foreman. He married Deborah Hamman on May 1st, 1981, and resided in Arroyo Grande, California.

John Robert truly loved his family and friends, but he had an extraordinary love for his children and his grandchildren. Papa John was loved so very deeply by his grandchildren. Their most treasured memories were sitting with him and listening to his stories about his adventures and when his children were small and their mischief. He was known for his wonderful sense of humor, gigantic bear hugs, charming smile, and being an incredible storyteller. John’s favorite times were spent with family and friends, being a lifelong learner and exploring new places, watching his grandchildren grow up, and setting an example for how to love unconditionally.

John Robert is preceded in death by his parents, John I Corey and Betty J. Corey. He is survived by his daughter Jennifer Alexander, her husband Wesley Alexander and children Breanna Corey and Ethen Weston. Son, John Robert Corey Jr., his wife Siomara Corey and children Dominic, Angelo, Jacob, and Adrian. Daughter, Katy Lynn Corey, her fiancé Kirk Strong, children Emily Sakowski, Payton McKinley, and Aubrey McKinley. Daughter, Trisha Fleming, her children James Reddick Jr., Christopher Ramsey, and Ashlee Fleming.

John Robert is also survived by his siblings, Susan Holzmann, Elizabeth Taito and Daniel Corey.

Memorial services honoring his life will be held at Noon, April 7, 2023 at Legacy Funeral Home in Chandler, AZ.
