Obituary of Richard D. Halverson
Richard Halverson was born on a farm at Kanawha, Iowa on February 23, 1929. Shorly after the family moved to a farm near Roland, Iowa. He went to country school for 2 years and then he went to Roland school thru high school graduation. He went to college for 2 years and then moved to Moline, Ill. John Deere Planter Works was his employer for the next 10 years. He married Shirley Elaine Youngberg on September 28th, 1952 in Andover, Ill. He quit working at John Deer and went to mortuary school in Chicago in 1960. They then moved to Shell Rock, Iowa in 1961 where he had a funeral home. They adopted Debra Jane, Nancy Kae and David Wayne from Chicago. In 1965 they moved to Belle Plaine, Iowa where they had a funeral home until 1975. They then moved to Mesa, Arizona. He was in real estate until he retired in 1955. They had a motor home and they enjoyed traveling in it plus square dancing.
He was preceeded in death by his son David in 2013 and his wife Shirly in 2017. He is survived by 2 daughters Debbie (Terry) Demeyer and Nancy (James) Indoe. There are also 5 grand children and 6 great grandchildren.
