Obituary of Emilio Martinez

Emilio V. Martinez was born in Guadalupe, Arizona on May 30, 1961. He passed suddenly on December 5, 2022. He is preceded in death by his parents, Luis & Juana Martinez. He is survived by his sisters Teresa V. Martinez (Frank) and Vicenta M. Alvarez (Florentino). His nieces & nephews, Nora Murillo (Richard), Aaron Alvarez (Leticia), Rafael Alvarez (Andrina), Naomi Alvarez (Abel), Melinda Ochoa, Imelda Martinez, Efren Rosales, Esperanza Martinez, great-nieces & nephews and great-great nieces & nephews and numerous cousins and friends.

From 1982 – 2003, Emilio was the head coach for the Guadalupe Little Yaquis. He was an amazing coach who instilled discipline and great life skills to our town’s youth baseball players. He saw all his players as winners, but most importantly, he saw each one of them as family. He will always be our champion.

Emilio was a true believer in our Yaqui culture and participated in the cultural ceremonies for countless years. He was employed with Tempe Union High School District for many years.

He will truly be missed by us all.

Funeral services will be at Santa Lucia Church 5445 E. Calle San Angelo, Guadalupe, AZ on Friday December 16, 2022. Viewing will be from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Mass will be on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 9:00 A.M at Santa Lucia Church. Burial to follow at the Guadalupe Cemetery.
