Edith DeLuca

Obituary of Edith DeLuca

Edith DeLuca, 91, passed away on October 16, 2022 at her home in Mesa AZ.  Born on April 16, 1931 in Brooklyn New York, Edith was the daughter of Frank and Lida (Comingo) Scarfo. Edith had 7 brothers and 5 sisters. Edith and her siblings mostly grew up at Mt. Loretto Catholic Orphanage in Staten Island.  Edith was married to her husband Liborio for 51 years (until his passing) and raised 3 children. Edith is survived by her 2 sons, Larry (Lee) and Louis, and one grandson Jaxon. She was preceded in death by her daughter Diane and husband Liborio.

Edith celebrated and endured many of life’s ups and downs.  Married at the age of 19 she loved and cherished her time with her husband and kids.  The family moved to Arizona in 1968 where the children were raised, but sadly lost her daughter in 1975.  Edith survived her husband (Liborio) by 20 years.  After Liborio’s death Edith, who never drove a car or wrote a check, had to brave a new world.  Edith carved out a good life for herself with the help of her sons, daughter in law, new friends and neighbors.

For 17 years following her husband’s death, Edith loved her new home she purchased with her husband 4 years prior to his passing. Edith enjoyed walking, especially with her dog Pepe who preceded her in death.  She also enjoyed going to the casinos and of course spending time with family. Edith could make you laugh at a moment’s notice. She also could laugh at herself.

In 2018 Edith broke her hip and became less mobile.  She cherished family visits even more and her new cat, Peewee, that was always by her side.  However, the most important person and the person that made it possible for Edith to remain at home until her death was her best friend and caregiver Maggie Morra along with Maggie’s daughter Heather.

A brief funeral service will be held on November 9th at 2pm in the Rose Chapel located at the Legacy Funeral home, 1130 S. Horne, Mesa AZ 85204, 480-833-1716.

There will be a reception held at Edith’s home at 4pm following the service.
