Obituary of Kim Balousek

 

Kimberly (Kim) Malia Balousek 
 
Kim Malia Balousek, 56, born in Hammond IN and a long-time resident
of Chandler, AZ, passed away peacefully at the Lund Home Hospice Center in
Gilbert, AZ, on Friday, September 30, 2022, after a valiant 2.5 year
battle with cancer. 
 
Kim, the youngest of six children and is preceded in death by her parents 
Kenneth and Theresa Malia; her brother Kenny Malia; sister Marsha Alger and sister Cindy Dinga.
She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Richard; her brother Jack Malia,Lake Havasu, AZ; 
her sister Penny Malia, Chandler, AZ; niece Kelly (Darren) Hodges, Whitefish Bay, WI; 
nephew Sean-ee (Lisa) Malia, Henderson, NV; niece Shannon (Dave) Madsen, Simi Valley, CA;
Nephew Walter (Sheri) Dinga, DeMotte, IN; Nephew Keith (Rachell) Dinga, Bloomington, IN;
Niece Mandy (Rick) Coleman, Hebron, IN; Abi Malia, Portage, IN ;Brother in Law Jack Balousek (Kathi), Moraga, CA; Sister in Laws Kathy Duray (Dave), Highland, IN; Mary Severa (Bob), Crown Point, IN; and Geri Winston (Bill), Crown Point, IN, as well as many nieces and nephews. 
Kim retired from the Bechtel global engineering and construction firm’s Glendale operations after a highly successful career in Administration. She was consistently recognized during her Bechtel career as one of the Company’s most valued employees.
Kim was very family-centered, had a passion for cooking, enjoyed Country music; was unfailingly kind, 
had a wonderful, well-tuned sense of humor, and LOVED chocolate and new shoes!
She and her husband Rich had a special passion for entertaining
others with their hospitality, generosity, friendship, humor and love.
For more than two decades they hosted an annual, week-long, Spring
Training event, affectionately named “The Rumble in the Desert,” for 
several local and out-of-town friends and relatives.  She was an avid, 
lifelong Chicago Cubs fan who attended many March spring training games in Mesa
as well as  annual trips to see the Cubs play at home at Wrigley
Field.  Kim proudly wore Cubs hats, 
shirts and anything "Cubby Blue".
The family expresses its deepest gratitude for the love, support, kindness 
and prayers Kim has received during her extended battle with numerous cancers.
 
A mass will be held at St, Anne's Catholic Church  440 E Elliot Rd Gilbert, AZ 85234 at 10 a.m. November 16th (live stream:  https://stanneaz.org/live )  
 
Celebration of Life to follow at the American Legion Post 352240 West Chandler Boulevard Chandler, AZ 85224.
