Obituary of Proctor Steven Peacock

Proctor Steven Peacock "Steve"

Steve was born January 25, 1937, and passed away in Gilbert, Arizona, on April 16, 2022, at age 85.

Born in the Gig Harbor Hospital to Gilbert and Violet (Shaw) Peacock, Steve was delivered by Dr. Arthur Monzingo, the only doctor in Gig Harbor at that time.

Steve and his family lived a short time in Alaska where his father was a logger. After his parent's divorce, Steve spent his early school years living in Gig Harbor with his mother, brother, Frank, and Steve's maternal grandparents, C.E. and Vina Shaw. The family moved to Bremerton where Steve graduated from Bremerton High in 1955. He went into the Marine Corps shortly after graduation, spending 16 months of his three year tour in Japan. Moving back to Gig Harbor, Steve met his wife, Ruth Ann Snyder, at his cousin's wedding reception. Steve and Ruth married in 1961, living in Bremerton, Seattle, Portland, Oregon, and Vallejo, California. Their sons, Steven and Michael, were born in Portland, Oregon. Steve worked for Retail Credit at that time and was transferred in 1969 to Vallejo, California as a branch manager. In 1973, the family moved to Gig Harbor where Steve enjoyed working as a realtor. In 1975, Steve along with Jerry Clark, Jack Banks, and Tom Orser, became owners of Peacock Real Estate. After Peacock Real Estate was sold to Jeff Lyons Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate in the 1980's, the original partners began building Sound View Park.

Steve was always very busy. In Portland, he belonged to a mountain climbing group where he climbed Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. He was also very active in the Rose City Jaycees. After returning to Gig Harbor, Steve was involved in many civic activities including Past President of the Gig Harbor Kiwanis. Still continuing to be active, he hiked the Grand Canyon, went skydiving in Eloy, Arizona, enjoyed golf and hiking.

Steve and Ruth traveled three times to Alaska, twice in their fifth wheel, twice to New Zealand, and once to Australia. They also enjoyed travels in the United States.

Steve was preceded in death by his mother, Violet Johnston, his father, Gilbert Peacock, and bothers, Ernest and Frank Peacock. After 61 years of marriage, he is survived by his wife, Ruth, sons Steven J. Peacock of Gig Harbor and Michael A. Peacock of Riverside, California, granddaughter Sara Peacock Moody (Wm. Curtis) of Graham, WA., grandsons Samuel Peacock, Sebastian Peacock of Gig Harbor and Christian Peacock of Riverside, California and surrogate grandson, Taylor Vallejo of Riverside, California, and great grandson Wm Cannon Moody of Graham.

Steve was a caring and thoughtful man. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues.
