Obituary of Lena Zavala Reyes

On Monday, May 2, 2022, 

Adelena Zavala Reyes passed away at the age of 91 with her family by her side in Mesa Arizona.


Lena was born on September 23, 1931 

in Brawley California. 

She grew up in Casa Grande where she was devoted to her family band, sang and played the saxophone.

In her early life Lena was offered an out of state singing contract which would require her to leave her family. 

She denied the contract so she could stay home and help take care of her younger brother Manuel “Zoombie”.


Lena was an entrepreneur always looking for business opportunities which included Fuller brush, Avon, Cleaning, 

Apartment rentals, Burrito and Tamale sales. She encouraged all her children to get an education and encouraged them to work hard.


Lena's loyalty was with her family and friends and she greatly enjoyed their company.

Her passion was cooking, singing, gardening and generosity.

She also had her unique sense of humor.


Her favorite dish was enchiladas and one of her favorite treats was ice cream.


Lena was preceded in death by her 

father and mother Louis and Emilia Zavala

brother Manuel “Zoombie”, 

sisters Carmen and Delia Margarita and her sons Alex and David.


Lena is survived by her husband Margarito, her 3 children Robert, Daniel, Anna, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
