Obituary of Mildred fern Hambleton

Mildred Fern (Denney) Hambleton passed away on February 4, 2022.    She was born on September 15, 1932 in Kickapoo, KS to John F Denney and Fern Alice (Rodenburg) Denney.  She is survived by four children:  Audrey Denney (Darrell), Peggy Shaw (James), Brian Hambleton (Sherri) and Mary Beth Dolinski (Mark).  Her grandchildren: Tara McNeeley (Jonathan), Laura Flores (Stevan), Shane Denney, Elizabeth Hansen (Jeremiah), Stephanie Kyle (Paul), Melissa Overton (Robert), Joshua Hambleton (Rachel), Kimberly Erickson (Jeremy), and Bethany Dolinski. Great grandchildren:  Josiah, Grace, Autumn, Andrew, Brendan and Elizabeth McNeeley; Jakoby and Gideon Flores; Lydia, Nathan, Joel, Samuel, Daniel, Caleb, Tabitha, and Asher Hansen; Ethan and Allon Kyle;  Selah and Brian Overton; Oliver and Lillian Hambleton; Ingrid, Kale, Daniel, Reagan, Rhys and Rhett Erickson. She is also survived by her sister Mary Lou Tedder, her brother Donald Denney, and many nieces and nephews.  She joined her husband Richard L  Hambleton and great grandson Zachary Kyle in Heaven.  She was also predeceased by her parents and her six brothers.

Millie attended St. Paul Lutheran School, graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1950 and attended St. John’s College in Winfield, KS.  Her career in administration began at Fort Leavenworth, followed by accepting a position as a Parish Worker at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kansas City.  She served at the Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St Louis, as well as numerous capacities at St. Paul Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Leavenworth, KS.  After moving to Arizona in 1985, she had a variety of positions, having worked at The MS Society and at Epiphany Lutheran Child Care Center, where she was known as “Miss Millie” to the preschoolers.  She volunteered in multiple capacities throughout her life, including leading a Girl Scout Troop, being a room mother and in the Piece Maker Quilters at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, Sun Lakes, AZ. She mastered the art of homemaking, gardening, sewing, canning, embroidering, and quilting to name a few.  Many family, friends and strangers were blessed to be on the receiving end of one of her quilts.  Other hobbies included watching baseball, basketball, fishing and, of course, Jeopardy. 

Her faith in her Lord Jesus Christ was nurtured from birth.  She was trained in the Kennedy Evangelism Explosion, leading many people to meet Jesus.  She shared her faith in Christ boldly and clearly. After moving to Arizona, she continued to grow in faith at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Chandler and Risen Savior Lutheran Church in Sun Lakes.  e

 

Her celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S Alma School Road, Chandler, AZ 85248.  Visitation with the family will follow the service with a light lunch being served in the Fellowship Hall.    The service will also be live streamed and the link will be posted on FaceBook the morning of the service.
