Obituary of Guadalupe Joseph Hernandez Holguin

Guadalupe Joseph Hernandez Holguin “EL PIO”, Born June 14, 1970 of Guadalupe, Arizona, passed away on August 11, 2021. Guadalupe was a Loving Grandson, Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend. He participated in the Pascua Yaqui Tribe’s C-CORE program for several years, traveling to Washington, DC to participate in meetings and develop program activities. His wise counsel and leadership skills were valued by colleagues and peers. He became interested in furthering his education and attended ASU where he obtained Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Social Work. Following years of dedicated study, he became a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and provided counseling at several local agencies including Valle del Sol and La Frontera Phoenix, Arizona. Guadalupe served as a staff youth leader in the Guadalupe Community Substance Abuse Prevention Program, Hiva Yu Allewame, from 2003-2007. He had a major role in teaching Guadalupe youth video making skills and presenting preventive media they created to the community. Lupe was known for his intelligence and wit and was equal parts a Marlon Brando Godfather-type and college professor. He wasn’t one to mince words although his Big Heart always shone through. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Service Details

Funeral Services for Mr. Holguin will begin at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 at A Legacy Funeral Home - Chandler (1374 N. Arizona Avenue, Chandler, Arizona 85225). Immediately following his funeral services, Mr. Holguin will be interred at Guadalupe Cemetery, Tempe, Arizona. Reception to follow at the Guadalupe Mercado.
