Obituary of Reynold Jack Krueger

Born June 26, 1942, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to June Elaine Hilgenrdorf Krueger and Jack Elmer Krueger, Krueger enjoyed a 53 year career teaching music in a variety of situations. He received a Bachelor of Music (1964) and a Master of Science (1967) degrees in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and the Doctor of Education (1974) degree in Music Education, Administration, and Supervision from the University of Illinois (1974). Krueger started teaching music lessons on piano, saxophone, and clarinet while a high school student; in college he led his fraternity-sorority mixed chorus, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Gamma Phi Beta, to a first place championship in the annual Fraternity and Sorority Competition in 1964.During his teaching career, he taught elementary or secondary school music in Madison, Wisconsin; band in Decatur, Illinois; choral music in Phoenix, Mesa, and Goodyear where he also coordinated the fine arts program for Littleton, Elementary School district. Krueger was a graduate teaching Assistant at the Universities of Wisconsin and Illinois where he managed the UW bands for five years as an undergraduate and graduate student. He taught music at Oklahoma City University where he directed the Music Education program (1972-1977) and the University of North Dakota (1977-1988) where he was chairperson of the Department of Music for 8 years and directed the Women’s Chorus in (1976-1988), and taught both undergraduate and graduate courses. In 1988 Krueger purchase a Huntington Learning Center in Mesa, Arizona. In 1969, Krueger was the only doctoral student in education in the United States to earn a $20,000 stipend from the U.S Office of Education to conduct, research, and write his doctoral dissertation, “A Predictive Investigation of Music Teaching Success” which included over 300 music teachers and student teachers in Illinois, Wisconsin, Florida, Washington, California, Texas, and Georgia. A member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Phi Mu Alpa Sinfonia, and Phi Delta Kappa, Krueger was elected 6+ an Honorary Member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Professional Women’s Music Sorority. For over 30 years, he was a member of Lions Clubs International in Oklahoma City, North Dakota, and Arizona. Krueger also served on the boards of directors for the Oklahoma and North Dakota Music Education Societies and edited both quarterly publications for 16 years. While a doctoral student at the University of Illinois he was Assistant Editor of the _Bulletin_in Music Education, a professional journal for music educators conducting research and advising doctoral and master’s degree students. For the last ten years Krueger has survived many emergency surgeries and fought through four terminal illnesses. He was also an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and did all he could to reach out and help others. Krueger is survived by his beloved wife, Karen Elizabeth Krueger, a son and a daughter, three stepdaughters and husbands, and nine grandchildren.
