Obituary of Alfonso Contreras

Alfonso Contreras Sr., 53, passed away on January 6th, 2022, in his home in Guadalupe. He was born on June 18th in Phoenix, Arizona. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, from playing baseball and running track in his school years, picnicking and hiking at Papago and South Mountain parks as much as possible, taking long drives to nowhere in particular, spending time and chatting with friends and family, and blasting old school funk, hip hop and Christmas music. Throughout his life he worked in many occupations like quality control, construction, drywall, painter, groundskeeper, but he worked happily for 15 years as a Security Guard with Gila River Hotel and Casinos. He always had the soul of a protector making his position as a security guard the best fit for him, he loved it. Alfonso passed after a long battle with colon cancer and complications of cardiomyopathy. Just like he dealt with experiences in life, he managed with such great strength, and wanted to spend as much time with his loved ones as possible. On his final day, he was surrounded by his children and his wife, who he adored more than anything else in the world. He is preceded in death by his parents Gregoria Tavena, Marcelo Contreras, and Angelita Paderez. Survived by Molly his childhood sweetheart and wife of 27 years, and 4 children Corinna, Brianna, Alfonso Jr. and Analisa. His brothers Mike, Ignacio, and Manuel Contreras a sister Esther Tavena and his “Extra” 5 sisters, 1 brother, Father-n-law Alex Paderez and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Morning mass will be at 7am with burial to follow at Guadalupe cemetery 4649 S. Beck Ave. in Tempe, Arizona. “Please wear masks and practice social distancing” We truly love and miss you!
