Obituary of Mary Donovan

Mary Lee Donovan, 86, of Tempe, AZ, passed away on December 4, 2018, in Gilbert, AZ. Mary was born in Centralia, WA to Nelson and Mary Fay on January 19, 1932. She went to school in Adna, WA. She married Thomas P. Donovan in 1950 while he was in the Army stationed at Fort Lewis near Tacoma, WA. She graduated from ASU with a BA in Sociology and later from San Jose State University with an MA in Education with a Concentration in Counseling. She worked as a Social Worker for the state of Arizona for a number of years until relocating to California with her husband. She had a love for all animals and was a patron and active volunteer at the Phoenix Zoo. When she retired, she developed a passion for Genealogy and did extensive research on both her father and mother’s line of descendants. From this research, she wrote a self-published book on her ancestors that settled in Southwestern, WA in Lewis County. Mary is survived by daughter Patricia and husband Darrell Gill, son Timothy Donovan and wife Kathleen, and daughter Jody Donovan; Brothers James Fay and Robert Fay, and Sister Joyce Anderson; grandchildren Melissa Paine, Brittney Lee Popejoy, and Ana Marie Gomez. Mary was dedicated to the humane treatment of all animals.
